Calculating...

We say, “It’s the thought that counts.” As someone who’s spent their fair share of festive seasons behind a cash register, I can tell you that most people think it’s the wrapping that counts. The number of times I’ve had to shamefully rewrap a gift in front of a customer is a whole lot more than once. But under those fluorescent department store lights, I learned a valuable lesson – how to perfectly wrap a present. I’ve taken that hard earned knowledge and applied it to toilet paper wrappers. The Gift Edition wrappers, specifically. Funny how your career repeats itself, eh?

The size

When it comes to wrapping presents, size matters – a lot. Putting too many wrappers together when you get started is a surefire way to end up with a crumply, bumpy mess. With the initial wrap, the paper shouldn’t overlap more than halfway. The hanging ends should only extend about 4 centimeters past your gift.

The folds

Crease, baby, crease! When you make the first fold on the ends, make a solid crease on the outer triangles. Use your nail, a ruler, whatever you’ve got – just be sure those lines are Crisp with a capital C. The tighter your creases, the more seamless your folds will be.

The bits and bobs

A little bit of pizazz covers a slew of wrapping sins. You could curl a ribbon (run the scissors inside the curve) and tuck in a little bit of foliage for effect. You could also cut out festive shapes from your leftover wrappers to adorn the top. You could wrap it in twine! Use patterned washi tape! Put a mini polaroid on top! The options are endless, just make it your own.

When all else fails, get ‘em a digital gift card. Then you don’t have to worry about wrapping it.
